GM Recalls Malibu Sedans for Seat Belts
The recall affects 437,045 2011-2012 model-year Chevrolet Malibu sedans in the U.S. and 4,620 in Canada.

General Motors is recalling 437,045 2011-2012 model-year Chevrolet Malibu sedans in the U.S. because the flexible steel cable connecting the seat belt to the car can wear out and separate over time, the automaker said.
To fix the problem, dealers will replace the outboard lap-mounting bracket and relocate the tensioner slightly rearward, GM said. Dealers will also inspect the cable and, if necessary, replace the lap pretensioner.
The automaker said it’s aware of 36 claims and one minor injury reportedly related to the issue. However, GM said it doesn’t know of any linked crashes or fatalities.
The recall also covers an additional 4,620 Malibus sold in Canada.
