General Motors is recalling 7,598 2011-2013 model-year Chevrolet Caprice Police Patrol Vehicles to fix a problem associated with the transmission selector lever, the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration reports.
The recalled police patrol cars were all manufactured from March 24, 2011, to Dec. 6, 2013. In these vehicles, the transmission selector lever contains two pins that can become displaced. As a result, the driver may be able to shift the vehicle from "park" without depressing the brake pedal. The driver might also be able to remove the ignition key without the transmission being in "park." As such, these vehicles fail to comply with all federal safety standards, NHTSA said.
