GM Recalls 426,240 Saturn Aura, Chevy Malibu and Pontiac G6 Vehicles

WASHINGTON – General Motors is recalling 426,240 2007-2010 model-year Saturn Aura and 2008-2010 model-year Chevrolet Malibu and Pontiac G6 vehicles, equipped with a 4-speed automatic transmission.

WASHINGTON – General Motors is recalling 426,240 2007-2010 model-year Saturn Aura and 2008-2010 model-year Chevrolet Malibu and Pontiac G6 vehicles, equipped with a 4-speed automatic transmission. The tabs on the transmission shift cable end in these vehicles may fracture and separate, the NHTSA said.

If the tabs fracture and separate, the shift lever and the actual position of the transmission gear may not match. As a result, the driver might inadvertently move the shifter to “park” and remove the ignition key when the transmission gear isn’t actually in “park.”

GM dealers will remedy the problem by installing a retainer over the cable end or by replacing the shift cable if necessary. There will be no charge for this service.
