General Motors is recalling 218,000 2004-2008 model-year Chevrolet Aveo cars because the daytime running lights module might generate too much heat in the center console in the instrument panel, posing a fire risk.
If the daytime running lights module melts from the heat, a vehicle fire could result, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said.
The Aveo subcompact car was discontinued after the 2011 model year.
In a separate action, GM is also recalling 214 2004-2008 model-year Chevrolet Optra cars because of a similar fire risk. Heat generated in the headlamp switch or daytime running lights module might lead to melting on the left side of the steering column, NHTSA said.
