GM Recalling 980 Vans to Replace Ignition Lock Cylinder

General Motors is recalling 980 2013 model-year Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana vans so dealers can replace the ignition lock cylinders.
In these vehicles, it may be possible to remove the key from the ignition when the van is still running or the transmission isn’t in the “park” position, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
This condition poses a safety risk, NHTSA said, because the vehicle may roll away when the driver is no longer behind the wheel. This condition also means the vehicles don’t conform to federal anti-theft standards.
In addition to replacing the ignition lock cylinder, GM dealers will provide two associated keys. There will be no charge for this service.
The vans covered by the recall include 2013 model-year Chevrolet Express vans manufactured Nov. 1, 2012, through Dec. 21, 2012 and 2013 model-year GMC Savana vans manufactured Nov. 14, 2012, through Nov. 20, 2012.
