GM Plans New Car-Based SUV Called Equinox

General Motors Corp. plans to build a new sport/utility vehicle (SUV) at a plant it operates jointly with Japan's Suzuki Motor Corp, according to the Detroit News.
The CAMI Automotive Inc. plant announced the future production of the Chevrolet Equinox, a car-based SUV modeled on the Saturn Vue, at its Ingersoll factory west of Toronto, the Canadian Press reported.
The Equinox, which would be sold in 2005, could replace the Chevrolet Tracker and Suzuki Vitara small SUVs.
The Equinox will be the first Chevy SUV built on a car chassis rather than a truck frame. It will compete with the Ford Escape, Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV-4 and other SUVs with car-like attributes.
