General Motors is issuing two recalls this month involving more than 12,400 Chevrolet and Buick vehicles, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The first recall involves 3,896 2012 model-year Chevrolet Camaro, Buick Verano, Chevrolet Cruze and Chevrolet Sonic vehicles. The driver-side frontal airbag has a shorting bar that may intermittently contact the airbag terminals. If the bar and terminals contact each other during a crash, this could lead to airbag deployment failure.

GM dealers will replace the steering wheel airbag coil free of charge.

The second recall involves 8,519 2013 model-year Chevrolet Malibu vehicles. They were all manufactured from Dec. 6, 2011 through Jan. 15, 2013. One or more rear suspension bolts may not have been tightened to the specified torque, which might lead to sudden changes in vehicle handling, NHTSA said.

GM dealers will inspect and tighten the bolts as necessary. There will be no charge for this service.
