Data and telematics provider Geotab is deepening its role in seeking to increase safety in municipalities by forming partnerships with Vision Zero Network and Together for Safer Roads, the company has announced.
By providing actionable insights from a network of 1.2 million vehicles equipped with its telematics hardware, the Toronto-area company hopes to help reduce traffic fatalities and injuries. Geotab has already been working with local governments to increase safety within their fleets, and the company is involved in smart cities planning.
"Finding ways to improve road safety and efficiency has always been a top priority for Geotab," said Jean Pilon-Bignell, Geotab's associate vice president of government and smart city. "Working with two outstanding safety-focused organizations aligns Geotab with an ecosystem of cities and citizen stakeholders working towards traffic and pedestrian safety initiatives that can help save lives."
Together for Safer Roads is a coalition of companies focused on improving road safety and reducing road-related deaths and injuries. Members include General Motors, AT&T, Pepsico, UPS, and Walmart.
The Vision Zero Network works with communities to develop strategies designed to eliminate traffic fatalities and injuries while increasing safety and mobility. Municipalities develop a data-driven approach around safe environments for road users.
Geotab also announced it had added SafeRide to the Geotab Marketplace. The software solution helps fleets curb distracted driving by detecting when a driver begins driving and locking their phone by muting incoming alerts and preventing screen use.
