The average price of a gallon of unleaded gasoline rose 5.8 cents to $2.332 for the week ending Feb. 23 for the fourth consecutive week of increasing fuel prices, according to federal data.

Gasoline remains $1.112 lower than a year ago, yet has begun a steady climb and increased in the nine regions tracked by the U.S. Energy Information Administration. The sharpest increase came in the West Coast region with a 13.6-cent increase to $2.758 per gallon. The lowest increase cam in the Gulf Coast with a 3.5-cent climb to $2.109 per gallon.

Four states now have fuel prices above $2.50 per gallon, including Hawaii ($3.037), California ($2.953), Alaska ($2.653), and Nevada ($2.547), according to the AAA's Daily Fuel Gauge Report. Two states have an average price below $2 per gallon, including Utah ($1.954) and Idaho ($1.954).

Meanwhile, the price of diesel rose 3.5 cents to $2.90 for the week. Diesel costs $1.117 less than it did a year ago.
