The national average for a gallon of unleaded gasoline fell 5 cents to $2.18 for the week ending July 25, according to federal data. The price continued to drop from last week’s national average of $2.23, showing a 56 cent decline compared to last year’s average of $2.74.

Regional fuel prices declined in all nine regions tracked by the U.S. Energy Information Administration. Prices in the Midwest dropped most sharply, falling 7.4 cents to $2.078. West Coast prices dropped 5.1 cents to $2.670, while California prices alone dropped 6 cents to $2.792. The Rocky Mountain region experienced the slightest decrease, with prices falling 1.2 cents to $2.264

This week’s average prices are the lowest since April and 56 cents lower than last year, according to AAA. Eleven states now have average gasoline prices lower than $2.

The national average price of diesel fell to $2.335, a decline of 1.8 cents from a week ago and 42.5 cents compared to last year.
