OLATHE, KS – Garmin International Inc.’s Garmin Fleet Management Interface, a fleet tracking and mobile resource management platform, is now available for the Garmin StreetPilot, nüvi, and zmo series of personal navigation devices. This new interface lets fleet tracking providers and large fleet operators utilize Garmin’s portable GPS devices as part of their mobile resource management solution. The launch customers for Garmin’s Fleet Management Interface are GPS-Buddy and Beacon Wireless. Using the Garmin Fleet Management Interface, fleet dispatchers can send multiple destinations and other instructions directly to their drivers. Using the touch screen, drivers can access detailed turn-by-turn, text-to-speech, voice-prompted directions to their destinations. If a driver misses a turn, Garmin’s navigation technology alerts the driver and automatically recalculates a new route to the destination. The dispatch center can also keep tabs on vehicle location to ensure new dispatch destinations can be sent to the nearest vehicle. In addition, owners and operators can be alerted to unauthorized use of their vehicles. Some fleet management providers can also provide statistical data that can be used in asset optimization programs.
