Ford Motor Co. has issued recalls for its Transit full-size van and three SUVs, including the Lincoln Navigator. The bulk of the recalled vehicles are Transit full-size vans from the 2015 to 2017 model years, according to documents filed with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the problems.

Ford Transit Vans

Ford is recalling an estimated 319,262 2015 to 2017 Ford transit vehicles because the driveshaft flexible coupling may crack with increasing mileage, resulting in driveline noise and vibration.

This scenario can cause separation of the driveshaft, which may lead to a loss of motive power, or unintended movement when the vehicle is in park but the parking brake in not activated. In addition, the problem can cause damage to surrounding components such as the brake and fuel lines. All of these situations increase the likelihood of injury or a collision.

To fix the problem, Ford will provide an interim repair on affected vehicles with flexible couplings with more than 40,000 miles. This will consist of replacing the driveshaft flexible coupling every 40,000 miles until the final repair is available and completed.

When permanent repair parts are available, dealers will install driveshaft front sections with mechanical U-joints to replace the driveshaft flexible couplings.

Vehicles under this recall were built at Kansas City Assembly plant between Jan. 17, 2014 and June 15, 2017. Ford’s reference number for this recall is 19S38.

Ford Edge Midsize SUVs

The automaker is also recalling approximately 431 2019 Ford Edge vehicles for an improperly crimped seat belt pretensioner anchor.

With this scenario, the driver’s side seat belt assembly may not adequately restrain the occupant in a collision, increasing the odds of injury.

To remedy the issue, dealers will inspect the driver’s side seat belt pretensioner assembly and replace it if it is within the suspect part production dates.

Vehicles under this recall were built at Oakville Assembly Plant between Sept. 18 and 19. Ford’s reference number for this recall is 19S37.

Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator Large SUVs

In addition, Ford is recalling an estimated 18 2019 Ford Expedition and 2019 Lincoln Navigator large SUVs because the rear toe link fastener may not have been properly tightened during assembly.

This situation means the rear toe link could become disconnected while the vehicle is in motion, which increases the likelihood of a collision or injury.

To fix the problem, dealers will verify that the rear toe-link-to-frame fasteners are tightened to the correct torque, check and adjust the rear toe alignment, and inspect the rear tires for abnormal wear, replacing them as necessary.

Ford Expedition vehicles under this recall were built at the Kentucky Truck Plant from Sept. 5 to 6, while Lincoln Navigator vehicles under this recall where built at the same plant on Sept. 6. Ford’s reference number for this recall is 19S36.
