Ford Recalling Certain Focus Electric, C-Max Vehicles — 2013-MY Ford Focus Electric

Ford Motor Co. is recalling 23,000 2012-2013 model-year Focus Electric vehicles and 2013 C-Max vehicles equipped with the Intelligent Access Push Button Start System, so that dealers can update software to include a door chime.

In the affected vehicles, there is no audible chime when the vehicle is operational and the driver's door is opened. Without an audible door chime, a driver might exit the vehicle without being reminded that it’s still running. This leaves the vehicle susceptible to theft, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.

Ford dealers will update the software free of charge. The recall is expected to begin at the end of October.
