The Department of Energy (DOE) and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) introduced on Oct. 29, 2002, an all-star line-up that included the Ford Ranger when it released its 2003 Web-based Fuel Economy Guide. The guide, a dual effort by the agencies, lists fuel economy ratings for most cars, trucks, and SUVs. The Ranger is the segment leader in fuel economy and emissions for the standard pickup truck. The Ranger pickup is also classified as a Low Emissions Vehicle (LEV). Ford had high ratings in other vehicles categories, such as the Focus that was the leader in mid-size station wagons and the Expedition which is 15 to 20 percent cleaner than other vehicles in its class.
