Ford Europe will launch nine all-electric passenger and commercial vehicles by 2024, “laying the foundation for the all-electric future of Ford,” according to the automaker.

The new models include a mid-size crossover with a range of 500 kilometers (310 miles), an electrified version of the Ford Puma and a sporty crossover model. Ford points to its growing European sales of SUVs and crossovers, which accounted for 58% of Ford vehicles sold in Europe, nearly 20% more than in 2020.

In addition, the Ford Transit range is expanding with four new electrified models: Transit Custom, Tourneo Custom, and the next-generation transit Courier and Tourneo Courier.

“Our journey to an all-electric future is an absolute necessity for Ford. It's about meeting the mobility needs of a changing Europe that calls for more innovation and a total commitment to the customer” said Stuart Rowley, chairman of Ford of Europe.

The two new fully electric crossover models will be built in Ford’s Cologne, Germany plant, where the automaker plans to increase EV production to 1.2 million vehicles within six years. Ford Europe will also construct a new battery assembly plant in Cologne, expected operational in 2024.

To achieve its EV goals, which includes CO2 neutrality its entire European business by 2035, the company is creating a new joint venture company in Turkey to develop one of the largest battery factories for EVs in Europe.

“These new Ford electric vehicles signal nothing less than the complete realignment of our brand in Europe – a whole new generation of zero-emission vehicles, optimized for a connected world and offering our customers a truly outstanding user experience,” said Rowley.
