The 2014-MY Transit Connect Taxi is powered by a 2.5L four-cylinder gasoline engine, which Ford stated it expects to achieve best-in-class highway fuel economy. This engine is paired with a new six-speed automatic transmission. In addition, the engine is prepped for conversion to a compressed natural gas (CNG) or liquefied petroleum gas (LPG, i.e. propane autogas) system. This powertrain will provide drivers with quick response times, durability, and low-rpm cruising capability, according to Ford.

Inside, the Transit Connect Taxi can seat five and features greater cargo capacity, at 60.5 cu. ft., according to Ford. The available cargo space leaves room for the addition of a CNG tank, Ford stated. This vehicle also features a lower vehicle height, which leaves room for taxi companies to place advertising on the vehicle’s roof. Ford added an interior hood release, allowing drivers to more easily check fluid levels before starting a shift. The automaker lowered the vehicle’s floor to improve cabin access, and the taxi companies can have the vehicle modified through Ford’s Qualified Vehicle Modifier program in order to make them wheelchair-accessible.

The next-gen 2014-MY Transit Connect Taxi features updated technology in the cabin, with options available including a rear-view camera, a 6.5-inch touchscreen display with navigation, and SYNC with MyFord Touch.

The 2014 Ford Transit Connect Taxi will go into production and arrive at dealerships early next year, according to the automaker.
