Severe flooding and landslides recently disrupted automotive vehicle production for Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi, and Mazda.

The flash floods and landslides resulted in Mazda suspending operations at two of its production plants earlier this month, which was due to how the flooding impacted rail and road networks, reported Automotive Logistics. 

Mitsubishi also briefly stopped production at one of its plants in order to get employees safely to work and was recently assessing production.

Hiroshima prefecture, which is home to Mazda, was hit hardest by the natural disaster and has accounted for most of the deaths and destruction recorded so far in the country, according to Just Auto. 

Meanwhile, Nissan suspended production at two plants earlier in July, though there were no long-term impacts on production, and Toyota also stated there were no impacts to production, though the automaker’s Daihatsu division stopped production at four factories due to disruption of supply parts. Production for Daihatsu is reportedly back to production, according to Automotive Logistics.

The landslides and flooding have killed roughly 200 people in what has been one of the deadliest natural disasters to hit the country since the earthquake and tsunami of 2011, reported CNN.
