This week's tip, taken from the New York DMV's Driver's Manual, concerns what actions a driver can take to avoid a collision after spotting another vehicle approaching head-on in the same lane. It's a nightmarish scenario that requires quick responses. You may want to pass this along to your fleet drivers as a friendly reminder.

Slow down and pull over to the right.
Sound your horn to alert the other driver.
Do not swing over to the left lane. If you do, the other driver may suddenly recover and pull back into that lane too, causing a head-on collision.

A head-on crash typically occurs when a vehicle crosses a centerline or a median and crashes into an approaching vehicle. But a head-on crash can also occur when a driver knowingly or unknowingly travels the wrong way in a traffic lane.
