GREENVILLE, MS — Terry Robertson, fleet manager for the City of Greenville, Miss. has been arrested by the Greenville Police Department and charged with alleged felony embezzlement, according to the Delta Democrat Times newspaper on May 5. Greenville Assistant Police Chief Laverne Simpson said Robertson's arrest was the result of a month-long investigation that resulted in a warrant for Robertson's arrest being issued May 4, 2005. Mayor Heather McTeer Hudson said in the newspaper article that Robertson, who has worked for the city for at least 13 years, has been terminated from his position with the city. The mayor confirmed that the activities under investigation involve Robertson's actions while serving as fleet manager for the City of Greenville, according to the Delta Democrat Times. Citing efforts to reduce the number of department heads in the city, the Greenville City Council in July approved the removal of the position of fleet manager from the status of department head. Although Robertson retained his position, the removal of the position from department head status resulted in a decrease in salary. The mayor was quoted in the newspaper article as saying the city received "information about possible mishandling of city property and funds." She said, based on the information, the city began looking into the matter. The mayor said a pre-termination hearing was held on April 25 with his Robertson's termination date being April 28. "According to city policies, an employee is allowed a pre-termination hearing, and following the hearing the employee has 48 hours to appeal the hearing," the mayor explained to the Delta Democrat Times. "Because it's personnel, I'm unable to give details concerning the hearings or what stage we are in at this time." Simpson said the police department is continuing to investigate the case, which involves a city account opened in 1992.
