IRVINE, CA - American green-car maker Fisker Automotive will be launching a North American tour to introduce the Karma plug-in hybrid to local markets and support the company's new retail network.
The Karma uses Q-DRIVE plug-in hybrid technology, developed exclusively for Fisker Automotive by Quantum Technologies. A fully-charged Karma burns no fuel for the first 50 miles. After that, the gasoline engine turns a generator to charge the lithium-ion battery.
Once the 50-mile electric range has been exceeded, the car operates as a normal hybrid vehicle. As a result, Karma drivers who charge their car overnight and commute less than 50 miles a day will be able to achieve an average fuel economy of 100 mpg (2.4L/100km) per year, the automaker said.
The tour is scheduled to kick off Tuesday, April 27, from the company's Irvine, Calif., headquarters. The two-month program will stop in 42 cities in 26 states and three Canadian provinces.
