Shell Hydrogen announced that it opened the first hydrogen dispenser at a retail gasoline station on Nov. 11. The station, a retrofit of an existing Shell retail station in Washington, DC, will service a fleet of six General Motors fuel-cell vehicles. The station is part of a collaboration between Shell and GM to demonstrate hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and refueling infrastructure technology. Shell will offer both compressed and liquid hydrogen at the station. In other hydrogen news, Ford Motor Co. will build a new center for fuel cell development as part of an $820 million upgrade at its Toronto-area assembly operations, the company announced this week. Worldwide fuel cell-related sales increased by 41 percent from 2002 to 2003, according to the first Worldwide Fuel Cell Industry Survey conducted by the US Fuel Cell Council, the trade association for the fuel cell industry.
