AUBURN HILLS, MI --- FEV Inc., a leading developer of advanced powertrain and vehicle technologies, said it will use the advanced capabilities of its Hybrid Electric Vehicle Development Center (HEVDC) to develop a 21kW-h Li-Ion battery pack.
The battery pack, being developed by FEV, will use advanced cells from Energy Innovation Group (EIG Ltd.) for a range-extended electric vehicle (ReEV) project. The cooperative project will "enable joint development of solutions to the automotive electrification challenges of both FEV and EIG customers," the companies said. The battery pack is expected to be demonstrated in a ReEV concept Dodge Caliber that was shown by FEV at the 2009 SAE World Congress.
"FEV is pleased to announce this cooperation with EIG," said Gary Rogers, president and CEO of FEV Inc. "The strongest teams are developed when recognized experts from different fields coordinate their resources to solve problems that are critical to the industry."
The project combines the engineering expertise of FEV with the lithium ion battery core competencies of EIG. FEV will design, implement, test and integrate the battery pack at its North American Technical Center, using its experience in the development of hybrid and electric vehicle applications. EIG brings expertise in energy and power density batteries as well as a proven ISO/TS-certified manufacturing process for high-quality prismatic pouch cells.
"We look forward to taking advantage of the synergies between FEV's engineering expertise in transportation solutions and our leading battery performance technology," said Charlie Duncheon, president and CEO of EIG America Inc. "We believe customers with needs in vehicle electrification stand to gain significant benefits from this combination."
