WASHINGTON -- Ferrara Fire Apparatus Inc., based in Holden, La., is recalling 104 model-year 2009-2011 Inferno and Igniter vehicles equipped with Meritor WABCO Electronic Stability Control (ESC). The recalled trucks were manufactured from April 2009 through October 2011.
The ESC module may cause the ESC system to activate unnecessarily in certain conditions and may adversely affect the slip angle calculation by the ESC module.
As a result, the ESC might mistakenly perceive an over-steering situation and apply the front axle outer wheel service brake until the vehicle is perceived to be stable by the ESC. These conditions could increase the risk of a crash.
Ferrara will replace the control module free of charge. The safety recall is expected to begin on or before Oct. 31. Owners can reach Ferrara at (225) 567-7100.
