Federal lawmakers agreed on Sept. 19 to make minor changes to U.S. fuel economy rules intended to decrease the amount of gasoline consumed by sport/utility vehicles and other light trucks, according to a recent Detroit News report.
Federal lawmakers agreed on Sept. 19 to make minor changes to U.S. fuel economy rules intended to decrease the amount of gasoline consumed by sport/utility vehicles and other light trucks, according to a recent Detroit News report.
Legislators agreed on a savings goal of 5 billion gallons of gas used by SUVs and other light trucks over seven years, starting with the 2006-model year. Some lawmakers wanted a larger reduction in consumption and said the change will improve the fuel economy of light truck fleets by less than one mile per gallon, according to the report.
