FedEx has added 15 hydrogen fuel cell-powered Charlatte ground support equipment (GSE) cargo tractors and a hydrogen fueling station funded by a $2.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the courier delivery company announced.
The fuel cell GSE cargo tractors are now part of a fleet of more than 1,500 gas, diesel, and electric cargo tractors at the FedEx World Hub in Memphis, Tenn., that move an average of approximately 2 million shipments every day, according to FedEx. The company will fuel the units using 15,000-gallon liquid hydrogen fueling infrastructure from Plug Power Inc. that's located on the airport ramp at FedEx's hub.
