WASHINGTON - Daimler Trucks North America is recalling more than 1,200 Detroit Diesel EPA07 Series 60 engines installed as original equipment in various emergency vehicles.
The affected engines use software that may cause the engine to shut down unexpectedly when a diesel particulate filter's over-temperature condition is detected, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported. The engines affected by the recall were manufactured by Detroit Diesel from Jan. 1, 2007 through April 20, 2009.
The problem could hamper rescue operations or increase the risk of a crash, NHTSA noted.
Daimler Trucks will notify affected truck owners, and Detroit Diesel will perform the necessary repairs free of charge.
This safety recall is expected to begin around May 14. Truck owners can contact Daimler Trucks North America at (800) 547-0712.
