Electric Drive for Light-Duty Commercial Vehicles Begins Production — Japanese manufacturer Isuzu will install the CeTrax lite drive in its new ELF EV.

Global mobility technology supplier ZF announced series production of its new CeTraz lite electric central drive engine targets use in light commercial vehicles.

An integrated electric drive, CeTrax lite is designed to support emission-free urban and last-mile delivery vehicles. Japanese manufacturer Isuzu will install the drive in its new ELF EV.

Produced by ZF’s Commercial Vehicle Solutions (CVS) division, the new drive is manufactured in Friedrichshafen, southern Germany.

“As an electric central drive, CeTrax lite allows our customers to electrify their existing vehicle platforms,” said Winfried Gründler, CVS head of product line for driveline systems.

A “turn-key solution” for light-duty commercial vehicles, CeTrax lite technology supports the architectures of conventionally fueled vehicles as well as manufacturers’ electrification strategies.

Produced for light commercial vehicles up to 7.5 tons, CeTrax lite has a peak performance of 150 kW and a torque of 1,500 Nm. The drive’s compact design helps maximize space for electric components and batteries, according to ZF. A fully integrated system, the module houses the electric motor as well as a 1-speed transmission stage and power electronics. The system also offers a light-weight design at around 120 kg.
