DOE Offers $10M for Biomass-to-Biofuel Advancement
The U.S. Department of Energy will invest $10 million in technologies that produce biofuel products from biomass, according to a new strategic plan.

The U.S. Department of Energy will invest $10 million in technologies that produce biofuel products from biomass, according to a new strategic plan.
The new grant program is seeking to fund projects that provide alternatives to petroleum-based fuels as well as products made from "renewable, non-food-based biomass, such as agricultural residues and woody biomass," according to the announcement.
The DOE hopes to reduce petroleum use by 30 percent in 2022 from today's levels with an effective cost of $3 per gallon gasoline. The grants seek to broaden the biofuel options beyond ethanol, according to the DOE.
The grants will be disbursed by the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. The DOE has set May 1 as the initial deadline for submitting concept papers.
