The national average price of diesel fuel increased 0.1 cent per gallon last week to $1.304, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) said Aug. 5. But gasoline prices went down to $1.395, a decline of 1.2 cents per gallon last week, according to the DOE. The increase in diesel price marked the sixth time in the last seven weeks that diesel price has gone up, the DOE said. The diesel price has risen 2.9 cents since June 24, but remains 4.1 cents below the price at this time last year. While diesel prices remained steady for most of the country, with only slight upticks, the prices in the West Coast and New England increased 1.1 cents and 1 cent, respectively. Diesel prices in the Midwest decreased 0.3 cent per gallon to $1.288, which is nearly 5 cents per gallon below year-ago levels.
