Diesel Price Continues to Climb to $1.417 per Gallon
The price of diesel fuel rose 0.3 cent per gallon last week, its sixth straight increase, to $1.417, the Department of Energy reported Sept. 23. The six-week run of increases has added 11.5 cents to the price of a gallon of diesel fuel and $34.50 to the cost of filling the two 150-gallon tanks used by a long-haul trucker. Gasoline, fell 0.6 cent in price to $1.395, the DOE said. The Sept. 23 price for diesel was 27.4 cents per gallon higher than the lowest point seen over the past 12 months, which was $1.143 on Nov. 21. Of all the areas surveyed weekly by the DOE’s Energy Information Administration, only the West Coast and its biggest contributing state, California, reported decreases in the fuel price. California's average price dropped from $1.618 to $1.582, while the West Coast price fell from $1.557 to $1.534. Of the other areas surveyed, the largest increase, 0.9 cent a gallon, was reported in the Rocky Mountain and Midwest areas, the smallest, which was 0.2 cent a gallon, in New England.
