DALLAS – Dallas County is almost done installing GPS tracking devices in all take-home county vehicles to prevent employees from misusing their take-home vehicles, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Commissioners hired a firm to handle the installations after several deputy constables wrecked their county cars while off duty.

The constables, as well as some county officials, will know how fast their deputies are driving, time spent driving, how long vehicles are idling, and where they're going.

Also, county officials will get alerts if the deputy constables use their county patrol cars on weekends, during evenings or outside county borders, which is not allowed.

Devices have so far been installed on 208 of 239 deputy constable cars and are also being placed on sheriff's and public works vehicles. Some high-ranking sheriff's commanders elected to receive an auto allowance instead of a take-home vehicle.
