Daimler, Qualcomm Developing Wireless EV Charging
Daimler and Qualcomm Technologies hope to develop technology that enables wireless charging of battery-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, as well as wireless charging of mobile phones in cars.

Daimler and Qualcomm Technologies hope to develop technology that enables wireless charging of battery-electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles, as well as wireless charging of mobile phones in cars.
A partnership announced by the companies will focus on the Wireless Power Transfer 2.0 high performance program for electric vehicles. The Qualcomm Halo WEVC technology could allow Mercedes customers to charge their EVs and plug-in hybrids without plugging them in. The WiPower technology enables consumer electronics such as phones and tablets to charge wirelessly in the vehicle. Qualcomm acquired WiPower in 2010.
The German-automaker has worked with Qualcomm previously on providing the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One team with Snapdragon chipsets.
"It's important that we remain on the cutting edge of technology and continue to deliver unparalleled experiences to our customers," said Thomas Weber, Daimler's board member for research and development.
