NEEDHAM, MA – Coca-Cola Enterprises deployed 15 hybrid-electric delivery trucks at the Needham Market Service Center, the largest single deployment of hybrid vehicles in the company's history, according to the Needham Times.
The Coca-Cola Bottling Company of New England Inc., a division of CCE, will deliver products throughout metro Boston with 10 hybrid electric tractor trailers (55,000 lbs. gross vehicle weight), three hybrid-electric 12-bay box trucks (33,000 lbs. GVW) and two hybrid-electric cooler delivery trucks (33,000 lbs. GVW). The tractors are the largest hybrid-electric trucks in North America and are unique to CCE. The hybrid vehicles use about 30 percent less fuel and produce about 30 percent fewer emissions than standard delivery vehicles.
As part of its commitment to corporate responsibility and sustainability, CCE will deploy 185 total hybrid electric trucks in 2009, bringing the company's total of hybrid-electric trucks to 327, the largest such fleet in North America, reported the Times.
In addition to the new hybrid-electric delivery trucks, the Needham Heights facility has installed water-saving technologies - such as condensation pumps and air rinsers - that will save more than 4.5 million gallons of water each year, while energy-efficient lighting systems in the facility help save more than 1.5 million kilowatts of energy per year, according to the Times.
