C.J. Driscoll & Associates has proposed a study to assess the interest of local fleet operators in vehicle tracking and other telematic services, the company announced. The study will focus on the willingness of commercial fleet operators to pay for services such as navigation, traffic alerts, remote diagnostics, email, and transmission of job assignments and status. Further, the study will assess the preference of fleet operators to access these services, either in through in-vehicle devices or portable devices. Known as the Commercial Telematics Systems and Services Study, the analysis is intended to compliment an earlier study by C.J. Driscoll & Associates, U.S. Fleet AVL Market Study, released in February 2003. The study will consist of surveys of 400 fleet managers from a broad range of commercial fleet categories, with emphasis on local delivery and service fleets. Fifteen-minute interviews will be conducted with fleet managers, directors of fleet operations, or others with equivalent responsibilities. Fleet managers from 42 states and the District of Columbia will be represented, with each fleet participating in the study operating at least 10 vehicles. The research report is scheduled to be available to charter subscribers at the end of August 2003.
