NASHUA, NH - The city of Nashua plans buy a fleet of trash trucks powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) instead of diesel. Aldermen approved two measures last week that allowed for the purchase of nine vehicles for the City's trash fleet.
NASHUA, NH - The city of Nashua plans buy a fleet of trash trucks powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) instead of diesel. Aldermen approved two measures last week that allowed for the purchase of nine vehicles for the City's trash fleet, according to the Nashua Telegraph.
The nine trucks would include three automated, one semi-automated, and five packer solid waste collection vehicles.
The board also approved a resolution to accept $400,000 from the state Department of Environmental Services to cover most of the extra cost of the gas-powered trucks over diesel-powered trucks.
Although a company has not yet been selected to build the filling station, its location has already been decided; it will be located near the City's transit facility.
The mayor has approached businesses that own fleets of trucks — United Parcel Service in particular — about forming a partnership with the City to help attract a natural-gas filling station and to lower the cost, according to the newspaper.
