COLUMBUS, OH - The City of Columbus, Ohio's large fleet of alternative fuel vehicles is the focus of this week's MotorWeek Clean Cities Success Story.
New to the city's fleet is a compressed natural gas (CNG) refuse truck, which is the first of 22 CNG trucks to be added to the fleet by 2011. The CNG trucks are expected to save the city $35,000 a year in fuel costs. In addition to CNG, the city has been using biodiesel in a variety of its heavy-duty vehicles since 2007; use of this renewable fuel is expected to replace nearly 1 million gallons of petroleum in 2009.
Produced by Maryland Public Television's MotorWeek program, this short segment will air on PBS stations nationwide starting Dec. 11, 2009 (in the regular weekly MotorWeek timeslot on your local PBS station).
