City of Burlington Passes Plan to ‘Green’ Fleet of Vehicles
BURLINGTON, ONTARIO, CANADA – The City of Burlington city council has approved its first-ever plan to green its corporate fleet of vehicles.
BURLINGTON, ONTARIO, CANADA – The City of Burlington city council has approved its first-ever plan to green its corporate fleet of vehicles. This transition strategy relates to the city’s new strategic plan, which calls for the reduction of corporate greenhouse gas emissions by 20 percent on a per capita basis from 1994 levels by the year 2012, according to www.burlingtonpost.com.
The strategic plan also sets out the goal of transitioning to a green corporate fleet of vehicles that emit low emissions and burn cleaner fuels — such as the purchase of more hybrid vehicles — plus using ‘right-sized’ vehicles for a job. Some large pick-up trucks have been replaced with compact pick-up trucks and some compact pick-up trucks replaced with smaller vehicles.
Under the green fleet strategy, consideration will be given to expanding the use of biodiesel across the city fleet and increasing the percentage of biofuel used. The city is still looking at other ways for a more energy-efficient fleet like electric vehicles and clean diesel with lower sulphur content.
