Chrysler Issues Two Safety Recalls for Software Issues
Certain RAM models have problems with engine calibration software and rear view camera visibility.

Low oil can damage the engine, leading to an oil leak or a punctured engine block. Both scenarios can increase the risk of a fire.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles has recently issued two separate safety recalls for different models with distinct issues.
The manufacturer is recalling an estimated 32,002 2019-2020 Ram 3500, 4500, and 5500 cab chassis vehicles equipped with a Cummins 6.7L High Output engine for a software problem. Specifically, the engine calibration software may not warn about low oil volume.
Low oil can damage the engine, leading to an oil leak or a punctured engine block. Both scenarios can increase the risk of a fire.
To fix the problem, dealers will update the engine calibration software, at no cost to owners. FCA's number for this recall is Y21.
In a separate matter, FCA is recalling about 14,096 2021 Ram 1500 vehicles equipped with a trailer reverse steering module (TRSCM) because the rearview camera image may not display. This reduces a driver’s visibility of anything behind the vehicle, increasing the likelihood of a collision or injury.
To remedy the issue, dealers will update the TRSCM software, free of charge. FCA's number for this recall is Y30.
In both cases, owner notification letters will be mailed July 30. Owners can reach FCA customer service at (800) 853-1403.
