In a group of newly tested 2005 models, the Chrysler 300 and Dodge Magnum were the safest among cars. They received the government’s highest rating of five stars in frontal crashes and for the driver in side impacts, and four stars for rear passengers in a side crash. In rollover testing, the highest rated pickups were the Dodge Ram 4x2, the Chevrolet Colorado 4x4, and the GMC Canyon 4x4, each receiving four-stars. The Subaru Outback was the only vehicle to receive the government’s top safety ratings for all crash tests. Two 2005 Ford vehicles, the two-door Focus and the Ranger 4x4 pickup, were the worst performers in new government crash and rollover tests, according to results released October 26 and reported by the Associated Press.
