When the Cavalier is redesigned for the 2005-model year it will be re-badged as the Cobalt. The new car will be built on the GM Delta platform. The car is said not to resemble the Saturn Ion, which is also built on the Delta platform. The market position for the Cobalt is said to be the same as the Cavalier, although it will have more standard equipment. Several trim levels are planned, from base through LS, LT, SS, and SS Supercharged. The SS Supercharged model is aimed at the import tuner market.
