General Motors' 2017 Chevrolet Bolt will offer a one-pedal driving mode that allows drivers to maximize fuel efficiency with greater use of regenerative braking, General Motors has announced.

The battery-electric Bolt's one-pedal driving mode provides the highest level of regenerative braking among the four modes. Each of the four modes offers progressively stronger levels of regenerative braking. The one-pedal model helps drivers "maximize their range," according to Chevrolet.

The modes allow the vehicle to operate in drive while the driver eases off the accelerator, operate in drive with the Regen on Demand paddle on the back of the steering wheel, operate in Low while easing off the accelerator, and operate in Low with the regen paddle.

The one-pedal mode doesn't eliminate the need for the driver to use the brake pedal, especially in emergency situations, according to Chevrolet. The Bolt is expected to provide 200 miles or more of range.
