The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado will offer new technology for towing trailers, including a rear-facing camera package and mobile-app control among other enhancements with its fourth-generation large pickup, General Motors has announced.

The optional Advanced Trailering System includes an automatic parking brake, hitch guidance with a rear view of the hitch, and a trailer tire pressure monitoring system. The system sets the parking brake when a driver puts the vehicle into Hitch View to help avoid vehicle movement. The rear-view camera helps a driver line up the hitch. The feature can monitor the tire pressure and temperature of trailer tires.

Drivers can use two mobile apps to improve the towing experience, including myChevrolet that now offers trailering features such as pre-departure towing checklists and a glossary of towing terms. The Advanced Trailering System app allows drivers to track the mileage, fuel economy, and transmission temperature while towing. The app can store up to five profiles for different trailer types.

A new optional trailer camera package enhancs trailer views with three cameras that provide a 270-degree view, including a rear view and two side views from cameras mounted in the side mirrors.

Chevrolet has also created a trailering label located in the driver's side door jamb that provides information such as gross vehicle weight rating, gross combined weight rating, rear axle weight rating, maximum payload, maximun tongue weight, and curb weight.

The 2019 Silverado will go on sale in the fall.
