TORRANCE, CA — Toyota Motor Sales USA (TMS) announced on January 28 that Union Pacific (UP) has restored rail service on all rail lines except the coast route through Santa Barbara and La Conchita (which carries Fremont-built Corolla and Tacoma units to Phoenix, Houston, and Memphis) and the Caliente route from Las Vegas to Salt Lake City. Current estimates are that the Caliente route will be fully operational by the end of January. UP has advised that the coast route will begin operating on a "limited basis" tonight and be fully operational by February 18. According to Toyota Motor Sales, of the more than 250 loaded railcars inbound to Southern California that were caught up behind the washed out rail tracks, all but about 40 railcars have arrived and been offloaded. Some 40 railcars will be diverted to Burlington Northern Santa Fe’s ramp in San Bernardino, Calif., due to congestion in the port of Los Angeles/Long Beach. The rerouting has been successful and has kept Camry, Corolla, Matrix, Sienna, Sequoia, and Tundra products flowing to Southern California.
