Sacramento County's Municipal Utility District (Calif.) will expand its plug-in electric vehicle fleet to include 27 sedans, 21 trouble trucks with electrified buckets, and 16 electric lift trucks by the end of 2017.
Given product availability, the utility expects to reach 45 battery-electric and plug-in hybrid sedans, seven plug-in hybrid SUVs, 30 plug-in hybrid pickup trucks, 16 pickup trucks with zero RPM idle reduction technology, 50 trouble trucks with electrified buckets, four cable pullers, and 26 lift trucks by 2020.
To support these new vehicles, the public utility will install 15 Level 2 charging stations and 45 Level 1 charging stations by the end of 2017. It also plans to increase workplace charging participation from 32 to 60 by the end of 2017, and to 110 by the end of 2020.
The utility district hopes to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions to 90% of its 1990 levels by 2050, and has partnered with the federal government in its efforts to accelerate EV adoption across the country, the White House announced in a statement.
