SACRAMENTO, CA – California Governor Jerry Brown has signed a bill that requires all car dealers in the state to post a disclosure notice on all used cars they sell that the National Motor Vehicle Title Information System (NMVTIS) identifies as having a junk, salvage or flood branded title.
The red-sticker disclosure notice will warn potential vehicle buyers that the vehicle has been "reported as a total-loss vehicle by an insurance company, has been reported into NMVTIS by a junk or salvage reporting entity, or has a title brand which may materially affect the value, safety, and/or condition of the vehicle." Further, the notice advises consumers to ask the dealer to view the NMVTIS vehicle history report or to access it online.
