Cal Poly Adding 12 EV Chargers on Campus
A grant from the California Energy Commission will pay for installation of a dozen charging stations for electric vehicles on Cal Poly's campus in San Lius Obispo.
With the help of a grant from the California Energy Commission, Cal Poly will install 12 charging stations for electric vehicles by the end of 2014.
According to The Tribune of San Luis Obisbo, the $147,982 grant will pay for the installation of charging stations at two locations on campus, a parking deck near the Performing Arts Center and a parking lot near the Kennedy Library.
California drivers using Highway 1 and U.S. 101 in the region will also have access to the charging stations, according to The Tribune, which said nearly one-third of the college's fleet runs on alternative fuels.
The grant request, which was approved last month, also noted commuters coming from as far away as Paso Robles and Atascadero who need reliable charging to make the return trip in their electric vehicles.
