Jaguar Land Rover North America is recalling 99,327 Range Rover and Range Rover Sport SUVs because of potential braking problems, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports.
Two separate safety recalls are involved. One recall covers 24,679 2013-2014 model-year Range Rover SUVs and 2014-MY Range Rover Sport SUVs.
In these vehicles, the brake vacuum hose may have been incorrectly routed, allowing a hole to be worn into it. As a result, braking assistance might be lost, affecting the distance needed to stop the vehicle.
The Range Rovers were manufactured from Aug. 16, 2012, to Jan. 8, 2014, and the Range Rover Sports were manufactured from May 7, 2013, to Jan. 8, 2014.
Land Rover dealers will inspect the brake vacuum hose and correctly route it, if needed, free of charge. Any damaged brake vacuum hose will be replaced, also free of charge. Land Rover's number for this recall is P052.
The second recall includes 74,648 2006-2012 model-year Range Rover SUVs manufactured from April 15, 2005 to Sept. 2, 2012. In these vehicles, one or both of the flexible front brake hoses may rupture, causing loss of brake fluid.
Again, the result may be a loss of braking power, requiring a longer distance to stop the vehicle. Dealers will replace the left and right front brake hoses, free of charge. Land Rover’s number for this recall is P054.
Both recalls are expected to begin March 13. Owners can reach Land Rover customer service at (800) 637-6837.
