BMW Selects INRIX to Provide More Detailed Navigation Information
NOVI, MI – BMW selected INRIX to provide its traffic information and driver services for the automaker’s next generation of navigation systems in North America.
NOVI, MI – BMW selected INRIX to provide its traffic information and driver services for the automaker’s next generation of navigation systems in North America. According to BMW, INRIX combines traffic information from a crowd-sourced network of connected vehicles, along with information from public and private sources, to provide real-time traffic information.
INRIX’s system will be able to provide an analysis of traffic and travel time that takes into account traffic light phases, stop signs, and even the effects on traffic of major local events (sporting events, for example). The automaker said this navigation will be able to improve travel times and fuel economy for drivers.
INRIX’s technology will be incorporated into BMW’s Advanced Real-Time Traffic Information (ARTTI) service, which will be incorporated into the navigation system that will be standard on all 2013-MY 7 Series models, the 550i Sedan, 550i Gran Turismo, and the company’s ActiveHybrid 5 Sedans. The new navigation system, with ARTTI, is offered as an option on the 2013 528i and 535i Sedans, 535i Gran Turismo as well as the ActiveHybrid 3.
