BMW Expands Multiple-Model Recall for Brake Problem
The new action affects nearly 9,000 vehicles in the U.S., including some 3- and 5-Series Sedans.

BMW of North America is calling back 8,988 vehicles in the 2012-2014 model years because the brake vacuum pump might fail, leading to a reduction in braking power, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports.
The brake vacuum pump that supplies brake power assistance may fail because of insufficient lubrication, NHTSA said.
This recall is an expansion of a previous one. In late October, BMW revealed plans to recall 76,200 cars in the U.S. for this same problem.
The new recall involves the 2014 model-year BMW 328i xDrive Sports Wagon, 2012-2014 BMW 320i Sedan, 328i Sedan, 320i xDrive Sedan, 328i xDrive Sedan, 2012-2013 BMW 528i Sedan, 528i xDrive Sedan, 2013-2014 BMW X1 sDrive28i, X1 xDrive28i Sports Activity Vehicle, 2013-2014 BMW X3 xDrive28i Sports Activity Vehicle, 2012-2014 BMW Z4 sDrive28i Roadster, 2014 BMW 428i Coupe, and 2014 428i xDrive Coupe.
BMW dealers will install a locking ring in the camshaft to retain the camshaft seal disk in the proper location. There will be no charge for this service.
The recall is expected to begin later this month. Vehicle owners can reach BMW customer service at (800) 525-7417.
