BMW and Boeing Partner on Recycling and Developing Carbon Fiber Materials

MUNICH and SEATTLE - The BMW Group and Boeing signed an agreement to research carbon fiber recycling and share manufacturing and automation knowledge for this material.
BMW is using carbon fiber in the passenger cell of its BMW i3 and i8 vehicles, and the automaker said recycling carbon fiber at the point of use and the end of a vehicle’s life is essential to the aircraft manufacturer and BMW. The automaker noted that this collaboration is the first between the two companies.
BMW Group has built a new carbon fiber plant in Moses Lake, Washington, in the U.S. The carbon fiber produced there will be used in BMW’s i3 and i8 vehicles.
